If the Remote Desktop Service (RDS) Windows group policy settings are improperly setup you may incur situations where Filopto will report that no Filopto RDS license is available.
The reason is that when a RDS session is disconnected, Windows will keep any running program active, even through the user is no longer connected. By default these disconnected session are maintained for an unlimited time on the server - NEVER DISCONNECTED.
To prevent your RDS Filopto license from being locked up and not available for other users/sessions, the Windows Domain Group Policies must be activated.
Following are the steps to activate these user configurable business rules in your Windows Domain Controller.
In the domain controller server, Open the Server Manager.
Then open the Group Policy Management (2) tool located under the Tool (1) menu. Your system administrator just needs to set up a few business rules. Depending on the Windows Server version being use, the images below may be slightly different ( example is from a Windows 2022 Domain Controller Servers)
Step 1 - Open the Domain Group Policy Management Tool
Step 2 – Locate in the Group Policy Manager the Remote Session Time Limits business rules as shown below
Step 3 Once the Session Time Limits business rules section is open, you are presented with various business rules that you may want or not to activate. The example below shows how to terminate the session and free up the Filopto License. Other rules should also be considered since they may cover other situations that will keep the Filopto License unavailable for future use. The termination time at which the rule will be executed are user selectable.
1.Set in the Set Time Limit for disconnected session (1) option, the time out period for Windows to release the user session and Filopto license. A shorter terminate period is normally the best option. Press Apply to save.
2.Activate the End session when time limits are reached (2). This option will force Windows to release the disconnected session base on the time set above, also releasing the Filopto RDS license.
